Lana, the lonely looking dog whose picture melted the Internet’s collective hearts, is now with a foster family and hopes to find a permanent home soon. The 1.5-year-old Labrador retriever mix was photographed on her bed at Rescue Dogs Match, her heartbroken face pressed against the wall. That shot of “The Saddest Dog in the World” went viral and has more or less ensured that Lana has a much brighter future ahead. Rescue Dogs Match, the Canadian rescue organization that has been looking after her, said they have received more than 3,000 emails from people who are eager to adopt her.
The dog’s sad backstory started when the family who had initially adopted her — and who had raised her for more than a year — returned her to the shelter after Lana snapped at one of their children. The transition from a loving home to a solitary kennel was difficult for the dog.
“She fell into a deep depression and totally shut down,” Brenda Dobranski, the founder of Rescue Dogs Match, told Today.
Lana shook off food, water and even attempts at affection for her first few days back with the rescue organization.
But in a recent picture, Lana looks much, much happier. She has been placed with a foster family, is in training to correct some of her behavior issues and is still hoping to find a permanent home. If you think you might be able to provide Lana with the loving environment that she needs — AND you live in Ontario, Canada — you can contact Rescue Dogs Match by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
