If you woke up to a massive snake crawling around your home would you freak out? Two women in Australia woke up to an estimated 16-foot python in a home in Queensland and rather than panic, one of them decided to record video of the huge reptile as it crawled inside the house.

Julie Birrell was visiting her friend Trina Hibberd in her Mission Beach home when they were awakened by the big snake, believed to be a Scrub Python, ABC News Australia reports.

Holy shit!!!! Monty visits at 4.30am today

The snake, nicknamed Monty, pretty much had the run of the house, moving from the veranda to the lounge wall where it slithered behind a painting and a hat stand. The women were able to lock the snake inside a bedroom before calling the snake catcher, according to ABC News Australia. Hibberd said on her Facebook page that when the snake was locked in the room, it knocked a few things over as it crawled around.

This is my guest room!!!

This wasn’t the first time that Hibberd encountered the snake, she told ABC News Australia. She first saw the snake about 15 years ago when it popped its head into the bathroom when she was showering. It is believed that the reptile has been living in or near her house ever since.

“We knew the snake was there but I had never seen it inside, not that I know of,” she told ABC News Australia. “I’ve never seen it in its full length.”

Snake catcher David Goodwin came to the house and managed to get the snake into a container. Goodwin told ABC News Australia that the snake was the second biggest he had seen in his career as a snake catcher. Goodwin released the reptile near a sewage pond, which he said has a rodent problem.

  • That was a beautiful snake. So happy that the snake catcher caught it and released it instead of killing it.
