Kat and her boyfriend, Jerad, celebrated their two-year anniversary this Thanksgiving. It was already going to be extra special since the couple planned to adopt a kitten.

They had fallen in love with a sweet gray kitten named Gandalf from the SPCA Serving Erie County, NY.

When Kat arrived at the shelter the day before Thanksgiving to pick up their new addition, the staff asked if they could film her for an adoption video. The video, it turned out, was a ruse to record Jerad’s marriage proposal.

Can’t think of a better way to head into the Thanksgiving holiday! Love is in the air here at the SPCA! That’s a “Will You Marry Me?” tag on tiny kitten Gandalf! After meeting on a blind date Thanksgiving 2014, Jerad knew Kat (yes, her name is Katherine!) was the only one for him…and decided to tell her so with a proposal moments ago when she came in to adopt Gandalf! Kat thought she was being filmed for an adoption video…but we knew otherwise! Congratulations to the happy couple – lots to be thankful for!!!

In the video, a member of the staff hands Gandalf (who presumably was named after Gandalf the Grey from “The Lord of the Rings”) to Kat and asks her to check if the information on his ID tag is correct.

The tag read: Will you marry me??

Kat steps backward in shock. Then in comes Jerad, dressed in a suit. He gets down on one knee and repeats the words written on Gandalf’s tag. Without any hesitation Kat says yes. Jerad places the engagement ring, which belonged to his grandmother, on Kat’s finger while Kat holds Gandalf close with her other hand.

Congratulations to the happy couple on both their new kitten and engagement! Looks like they have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season.
