Winners from the AKC/Eukanuba Weekend 2012

In addition to the Best in Show and Group winners, many more winners emerged from the AKC/Eukanuba 2012 weekend.

Named Best in Show by judge Edd E. Bivin, Wire Fox Terrier GCh. Afterall Painting the Sky (‘Sky’) took home the red, white and blue Best in Show ribbon, along with $50,000 in prize money and the prestige of winning the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship over thousands of other dogs. Sky is owned by Victor Malzoni Jr., T. Steele, S. and M. Olund and Diane Ryan of Rialto, Calif. She is handled by Gabriel Rangel. Sky also took home Best in Show from the National Dog Show earlier in 2012, which aired on NBC Thanksgiving Day after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

In addition to the Best in Show and Group winners at AKC/Eukanuba 2012, many more winners emerged from the weekend event at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. (See all winners below.) Other conformation events during the five-day dog event were the Eukanuba World Challenge, Junior and the Orlando cluster shows. There were also the AKC Agility invitational; AKC National Obedience Invitational; Junior obedience and agility; Meet the Breeds; Eukanuba SuperDogs; DockDogs; Eukanuba Extreme Soccer Dogs; celebrity dogs; and more, which culminated in more than 15,500 combined entries.

The AKC/Eukanuba National Championship will air on ABC on Saturday, February 2, 2013 (check your local listings for air times).

Best in Show: Wire Fox Terrier GCh. Afterall Painting the Sky (‘Sky’), owned by V. Malzoni Jr., T. Steele, S.and M. Olund, and Diane Ryan of Rialto, Calif.

Sporting Group: Black Cocker Spaniel GCh. Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction (‘Beckham’), owned by B. Vandeman, C. Douglas, M. Walker and L. Moore of Dallas, TX.

Hound Group: Saluki GCh. Shiraz California Dreamin’, owned by Nicklas and Ingunn Eriksson of Sweden.

Working Group: Alaskan Malamute GCh. Catanya’s Latin Lover (‘Ricky’), owned by PJ Kendrick, Armando Martinez and Alisa Syar of Granite Bay, Calif.

Terrier Group: Wire Fox Terrier GCh. Afterall Painting the Sky (‘Sky’), owned by V. Malzoni Jr., T. Steele, S.and M. Olund, and D. Ryan of Rialto, Calif.

Toy Group: Affenpinscher GCh. Banana Joe V. Tani Kazari (‘Joe’), owned by Zoila Truesdale and Mieke Cooymans of Seekonk, Mass.

Non-Sporting Group: Standard Poodle Del Zarzoso Salvame From Afterglow, owned by Michael Gadbsy and Jason Lynn of the United Kingdom.

Herding Group:  Bouvier des Flandres GCh. Rocheuses Me And My Shadow Of Cornus (‘Casper’), owned by F. and C. Dreyfus, H. and C. Johnson, and K. Brown of Colorado Springs, Colorado.


Other Winners

Eukanuba World Challenge: The Eukanuba World Challenge is an international competition comprised of 42 top-winning dogs invited from six continents. Eukanuba World Challenge Champion and winner of $10,000 was Standard Poodle GCh. Jaset’s Satisfaction (‘London’), who represented the United States. London is owned by Michele Molnar and Jamie Danburg and handled by Ann Rairigh. Another US dog, Australian Shepherd GCh. Propwash Reckon (‘Reckon’), was the Eukanuba World Challenge Champion in 2011.

Best Bred-By-Exhibitor in Show: Best Bred-by-Exhibitor in Show went to Doberman Pinscher GCh. Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici (‘Fifi’). More than 1,200 dogs competed for the $15,000 prize. Fifi is owned by Jocelyn and Kevin Mullins and Suzy and Dick Lundy of Lewis Center, OH, and was handled by Jocelyn.

Best in Miscellaneous Group: Best in Miscellaneous went to Dogo Argentino Ona De Las Pampas, owned by Nancie Mages and Kim and Joseph Halcom of Millington, Illinois.

Junior Showmanship: Emma Grayson Echols, handling Yorkshire Terrier GCh. Silkiss’D Lets Rock, won Best Junior Handler for the second year in a row. The Junior Showmanship competition saw handlers from ages 9 to 18 compete for the $2,000 scholarship.

AKC Meet the Breeds: The Bull Terrier booth won AKC Meet the Breeds Best Booth in Show. The AKC’s Meet the Breeds events include hundreds of breed booths that allow dog lovers to interact with common and rare breeds and learn more about them from experts.

Breeder of the Year: The AKC Breeder of the Year was presented at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship to James W. Smith for his Absolutely Smooth Fox Terriers.
