Weaned: Bird Term of the Day

Definitions of words used by pet bird enthusiasts with the pet bird slant.

Weaned: (verb) When a baby bird eats on its own without help from its parents or from a person hand-feeding it. As a practice, a baby bird should not be adopted out as a pet until it is weaned, unless the adopter knows how to hand-feed. Hand feeding should only be done by professionals, or by someone who has been trained by a professional.
