The line “every dog has his day” has been around for centuries, but it’s a safe bet that not many dogs have had a better 24-hour period than George did.
The 2-year-old Great Dane has spent his short life as a service dog, working with an 11-year-old girl who was born with a rare disorder. As a reward for his dedication, he was treated to… a little bit of everything, including a stack of hamburgers, a room full of toys and a new Great Dane-sized bed, complete with an embroidered bone-shaped pillow.
Bella Burton, George’s human companion, has Morquio Syndrome, a disease that causes growth and development problems, among other complications. George has been instrumental in helping Burton learn to walk, to run and even to ride a bike, in addition to being a constant presence by her side. That’s why BarkPost decided to give the dog an extraordinary day of his own, one where he was allowed to hang up his service dog vest while he chowed down on Wahlburgers, played in the snow and tested out his new chew toys.
“George is joyful and he’s always happy and he’s always there to cheer you up,” Burton said. “He is my best friend.”
This video makes it look like both of them enjoyed George’s big day, and that makes it even more special.
