In just a moment, you will be amazed at this guinea pig’s handsomeness.
If you’re ever having a bad hair day, think of this guinea pig and others like him. At least you can comb your own hair. Longhaired guinea pigs rely on their owners to keep their flowing locks free from nasty tangles.
Good hair is especially important for guinea pigs who compete in shows. This little guy is a Merino guinea pig who has won many awards in the Netherlands. His breeder is Dana Jansen of Hopeful Farms. Jansen’s Facebook page indicates that this guinea pig is named Chevy.
The video states that the guinea pig is Golden Boy, but perhaps the photographer got the names switched, as Jansen’s Facebook page also shows a video of Golden Boy, who has the long, smooth hair of a Sheltie (known as the Silkie breed in the United States). The Merino breed is not recognized for shows in the United States by the American Cavy Breeders Association.
Filmmaker Thalia de Jong wrote on her Vimeo profile that she strives to “capture the essential quality of subjects.” I’d say she captured Chevy’s furry splendor perfectly!
Jansen noted that Chevy’s show career came to an end in late December. The occasion was celebrated with a haircut, which she captured on video. He is now happily retired.
