Earlier this week, nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards were announced and since then all kinds of words have been exchanged about who should have been nominated. We stayed out of the conversation but now cat guy Ed Sheeran has spoken up to defend cat super fan Taylor Swift against mega cat lady Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj. So now it’s real for us.
To recap, two videos by women were nominated: “7/11” by Beyoncé and “Bad Blood” by Taylor Swift. Nicki Minaj got a nom for “Anaconda” in Best Female Video, then she tweeted this, kind of sounding specifically about Swift.
If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year ??????????????????????????

We’ll keep the cat pictures coming. Hang in there.
@NICKIMINAJ I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..

Katy Perry didn’t like that. I think. I was a little confused by
Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman…

So now tens of thousands of people are talking about and favoriting and retweeting all of this. Cat fan Ed Sheeren, fellow Video of the Year nominee, stepped in to support Taylor Swift.
Sheeran told The Daily Telegraph in Australia on Thursday: “I think everyone knows that Taylor has done nothing wrong in that situation. She didn’t nominate herself for the awards. It’s not her fault,” Sheeran said. “She just made some good videos and people think they’re good.”
And Swift ended the spat.
I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki. @NICKIMINAJ

So, a happy ending. With all this good will and love of cats, the VMAs should be fantastic. I mean, c’mon, this one’s hosting.
