The struggle is real for animal shelters when it comes to thinking up inventive ways to capture the attention and hearts of potential adopters. Calgary Humane Society opted for a different tactic. As opposed to tugging at one’s heartstrings, CHS went for the funny bone with a highly humorous parody video starring an unexpected character: a smarmy, mustached used car salesman.
Advertising “Pre-Owned Cats,” the “Used Cat Salesman,” decked out in trademark sports jacket, goes on to, theatrically, show off a selection of the fine felines currently available for adoption.
“Black cats! White cats! Tall cats, short cats – we’ve got cats of all makes, models and colors, that are ready to practically walk off the lot,” he boasts. “That’s right folks, we’ve got some terrific tabbies, and this weekend only we’re sending them home for a song. We’re talking huge reductions in adoption fees!”
The “Used Cat Salesman” then proceeds to walk the viewer through the “lot,” showcasing various cute kitties, while spouting cheesy, yet laugh-out-loud funny puns.
“Come in and check out our selection of black felines,” he says. “This flashy orange number purrs like a kitten. Boasting a top speed of 30 miles per hour, this sporty little number is ready to race home — straight into your heart!”
“Pre-Owned Cats” was created in an attempt to advertise the Open-House hosted at CHS this past Saturday, but judging from the 59,000+ views it has received in the five days since it was uploaded to YouTube, we think it will be making a reappearance very soon.
What do you think of this adoptables advertising tactic?
