Jacko and Chip were adopted within days of each other, more than a decade after the dogs were brought to the shelter.

The past few days have been incredibly emotional ones at Save-A-Pet Adoptions. Two dogs who have spent their entire lives at the South African shelter were finally adopted and taken to their new homes, according to Save-A-Pet’s Facebook page.

First, Chip, a dog who had been at the shelter for 15 — FIFTEEN! — years was adopted by a man named Jaco Rademeyer. Then just a few days later, their other longtime resident, Jacko, got his own overdue miracle. Jacko was brought to the shelter as an 8-week-old puppy, when he was pulled from a river after someone tried to drown him. That was 13 long years ago.

“Jacko has NEVER had a home, NEVER had a family to love and cherish him, NEVER had a warm bed to sleep in or a human to cuddle up to,” Save-A-Pet wrote on its Facebook page. And then the Preston family arrived and took Jacko home.

They say that every dog has his day, and we’re glad these two finally got theirs.
