Travel Tuesday: Montreal’s First Vegan Cat Café

Café Venosa, where the food is vegan but the cats are not.

Cat cafés, besides providing delicious treats and a vast array of hot beverages, are all about the wellbeing of cats. Some cafés become the permanent home of the kitties, while others take on more of a foster care role until a lucky family takes the cat with them to his forever home.

Café Venosa, a new cat café in Montreal, “seeks to help reduce the animal overpopulation in shelters by adopting [their] cats and replacing them with other cats from the shelter,” according to their website. So what’s unique about Café Venosa? This café is environmentally vigilant. Not only are they trying to help with overpopulation of cats in their city, they’ve also carefully chosen their cleaning supplies and serve only vegan food because, they say, “We wish not to take from our environment what we cannot give back.”

So what’s on the menu? Coffees, teas and hot chocolate; muffins, parfaits and smoothies; soups, quiche, salads and wraps; cookies, cupcakes and cheesecake. Plus the opportunity to hang out some shelter cats who need a cat person to hang out with them and maybe take them home.

Café Venosa is located at 4433 St. Denis in Montreal, Quebec. They’re open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
