Training Program Aids Dogs with Hearing Loss

Program teaches owners to communicate with deaf dogs.

If you think training a dog is hard, try training a deaf dog.

When dogs can’t hear voices and commands, training becomes even more difficult. But that’s only if the owner knows about the dog’s hearing loss. Dogs with undiagnosed hearing problems may be considered non-responsive or aggressive.

Trainers at Sit Means Sit dog training schools have developed a plan to train deaf dogs using gentle vibrations of a radio-controlled collar. The vibrations allow trainers and owners to gain the dog’s attention. Subsequent hand signals provide direction.
