In a desire to help homeless and hungry animals, Purina One has teamed up with Martha Stewart for the Purina One Tour for Heroes, a mobile tour visiting animal shelters nationwide through February, providing pet food, supporting pet adoption and helping pets in need.

“My pets are important members of my family and I am deeply committed to helping homeless animals, said Stewart. “I’m pleased to be working with Purina One to support pets in need because I believe this is a worthy cause that can help so many animals across the country.”

The Tour for Heroes will run through Feb. 26, and will stop at animal shelters in 11 cities from San Francisco to New York and set up temporary food banks and hold adoption events. More than 63,000 pounds of dog and cat food will be given out to help pets in need. Every pet owner who visits an event and is in need of food will receive a bag of Purina One cat or dog food while supplies last.

Purina One is also supporting adoption events at each of the Tour for Heroes. Each stop will feature adoptable cats and dogs from the tour-stop shelters; everyone who adopts a pet will receive a coupon for free cat or dog food.

On Friday, Feb. 5, “The Martha Stewart Show” will help promote the event by featuring  animal-welfare advocate Tony La Russa, manager of the St. Louis Cardinals and co-founder of the Animal Rescue Foundation in Walnut Creek, Calif., to discuss the Tour for Heroes.

Those who can’t  adopt a pet can still help the cause. Go to the tour website and choose a pet to help. Click to share his or her profile with friends on your Facebook page. Every time a photo is shared, Purina One will donate $1 worth of food — up to $50,000. Pet lovers can share photos until March 31.
