Hungry Hamster Feasts On Miniature Meals In Katy Perry Music Video

We came for Katy Perry, but we stayed for Mr. Parsons the hamster.

So cute and little. And the hamster is cute, too!

Katy Perry is known for her love of all things cute and kitchy. And there’s perhaps nothing more cute and kitchy than a hamster eating tiny food in a dollhouse.

That’s exactly what you’ll see in her latest video for the single, “Chained To The Rhythm.”

The hamster, whose name is Mr. Parsons, watches TV in the cramped-but-cozy living room while a kind and generous hand prepares a petite feast in a miniature kitchen. The items on the hammie menu include a hamster-sized hamburger, hot dog and a bowl of spaghetti, which Mr. Parsons happily eats. (The YouTube description assures viewers that all food eaten by Mr. Parsons was made with hamster safe ingredients and that American Humane monitored the animal action.)

Did we mention this is all happening as a cartoon hamster head bounces over the on-screen lyrics?

The lyrics don’t seem to have much in common with what we see in the video. In fact, they’re pretty bleak:
Turn it up, it’s your favorite song.
Dance, dance, dance to the distortion.
Come on, turn it up, keep it on repeat,
Stumbling around like a wasted zombie.
Yeah, we think we’re free.
Drink, this one is on me.

We’re not sure what hamsters and tiny food has to do with the song itself, but we’re definitely a fan of the video.
