Tillman Makes the Ranks

Tillman, the Bulldog who is famous for his skateboarding and surfing skills, can now add honorary Marine to his list of achievements.

Tillman the BulldogTillman received his honorary Marine, Private 1st Class status at the Sky Ball Fundraiser benefiting military families. The

Bulldog, who was recognized for his work entertaining the troops, was put through his paces at a mini Marine boot camp.

Lucca, a retired military dog who has saved countless lives since joining the Marine Corps in 2006, was on hand to show Tillman the ropes.

Tillman, who represents Natural Balance Pet Foods, attended the Sky Ball in conjunction with fundraising and donations by Natural Balance,

Petco and Maddie’s Fund to create the first national monument to Military Working Dogs.

Designed by veteran military dog handler John Burnam, the nine-foot tall, 1,500 pound monument depicts the modern military K9 handler and four breeds of military dogs — a Doberman, German Shepherd Dog, Labrador Retriever and Belgian Malinois.

The monument will be re-created in floral designs as the centerpiece of Natural Balance’s annual Tournament of Roses parade float  this year, and then will go on a national tour before being dedicated in 2013 at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, where all military dogs are trained.
