Thrift Store Mascot Is A Dog Who Loves Relaxing In A Laundry Basket

Wafer the dog is not the best salesman but he is a pro at napping and being cute.

If you were just thinking how there aren’t enough places where you can get bargain-priced furniture AND give a dog some ear scratches, then you are in luck.

Estes Park Community Thrift Shop in Estes Park, Colorado, offers low prices on new and used items as well as an opportunity to hang out with the store’s mascot, Wafer the dog.

Wafer is a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever mix who enjoys sleeping in a laundry basket and receiving each scratches from customers. He was adopted from the Denver Dumb Friends League in March of 2016 after being rescued from another shelter in Texas, according to the store’s website.

While he mainly lounges around on the job…

Despite his lack of retail skills, he must be a big hit with customers because his owners had to put a “Not for Sale” sign on his basket awhile back.

If you can’t make it to Colorado to say hi to Wafer, you can follow him on social media. He has his own hashtag: #waferthedog.

    • Obviously, no one. The idea behind the story is the saving grace of it.

    • It’s not meant to be fine literature. Calm down and try to enjoy the message.

  • REALLY I CAN’T BELIEVE WHAT PEOPLE GET OUT OF READING STORIES SUCH NEGATIVITY I WISH YOU WOULDN’T EVEN COMMENT.

  • @Daniel Adams I don’t understand the complaint either. The story is not rife with grammatical or spelling errors and is a cute story with pictures of an adorable dog. Furthermore, don’t criticize a lack of proofreading when you begin a sentence with a lower case letter.

  • Could you please change the word “each” to “ear”. Sorry, I’m a little OCD about grammar.

    • Funny, I didn’t even notice the “each” — guess it didn’t matter! You know what they say about people who only want to criticize the spelling and grammar…

  • Wafer is totally adorable, and the perfect store mascot. I love the picture of him behind the counter by the register. I love the “I’m not sick (I’m just lazy)” sign on his basket. 😉 Why walk around and do work for scritches when you can lay by the register and wait for the scritches and love to come to you? XD The good life, he has it. I disagree he’s not a good salesman. I’m sure many, many people who buy something came there originally only to see him. His hoomans own many sales to his animal magnetism.

  • How adorable is this!
Whenever I find a store that has a cat or dog as one of their employees, that place has a customer for life! There’s nothing like a furry face to make the day go right <3
Hugs and pets sent to Wafer <3

  • I love to patronize stores that have animals, I definitely go out of my way to do so. Stephanie Brown- thank you for going to the trouble of sharing this with us. Thanks! Note: I remember someone being bitched out for his grammar/spelling. Turns out he was deaf and ASL was his primary language. Newsflash! English isn’t the only language in the world and even if it were we can’t know whether or not someone is dyslexic, young, really busy with things other than volunteering their time to write stories for free, etc. We should never try to silence anyone’s voice and making someone self-conscious about communicating is obviously wrong. It doesn’t mean we’re a grammar ‘nazi,’ it means we’re possibly bullying someone who’s circumstances we don’t know. Next time, punch up and not at someone who is obviously a better person than most.
