One recent weekend, I had the opportunity to attend America’s Family Pet Expo in Costa Mesa, Calif. This is always a fun and informative show to attend and this year was no different, except that I was part of an educational presentation put on by the company I work for, BowTie, Inc.
One of the things I enjoy about the show is seeing the vendors and new products. I obtained many food samples and was even given a full bag of kitty litter to try. Some of the food manufacturers ask for a $1 donation for the food samples, which they then donate to some of the rescue organizations.
I went on the last day of the show in the afternoon and was able to purchase an automatic drinking fountain for less than half price. On the last day of the show, many of the vendors will discount their products so they don’t have to pay for shipping the merchandise a second time. Keep this is mind if you attend this kind of event.
The best part of the show, however, was seeing the number of pets that were being adopted. There were many local rescue organizations there introducing the animals to prospective pet parents, and lots of successful matches took place.
I met at least five people who adopted dogs at the shows, from puppies to senior dogs. It was so heartwarming to see a happy person and their new best friend walking out together. If you are looking for a new pet, this kind of show is a wonderful way to find both purebred and mixed-breed dogs.
All in all, this was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
