A West Village woman plunged into the Hudson River on Tuesday afternoon to save her bird-chasing dog – and had to be rescued by police, reports the New York Daily News.
Dogs Taken From Breeder Ready for Adoption
On Thursday, the Oregon Humane Society will begin finding new homes for 16 dogs seized in mid-February from a Canby breeder. The dogs include Golden Retrievers and Coton de Tulears. The breeder was cited by the Oregon Humane Society for animal neglect and for violating a new state law cracking down on puppy mills, reports the Portland Tribune.
Injured Police Dog Witnesses Bill Signing
Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton signed a bill Tuesday to increase penalties for people who harm police dogs. Dayton was joined at the signing ceremony by Roseville police officer John Jorgensen and his canine partner, Major, who lost the use of his hind legs after he was stabbed four times while investigating a burglary. He gets around with the aid of a small cart attached to his hindquarters, reports Minnesota Public Radio.
