A dog in Germany has given birth to 17 puppies, leaving their owner thrilled but fatigued after having to feed them with a bottle for several weeks because their mother couldn’t cope with the demand. Owner Ramona Wegemann says she barely slept for more than a couple of minutes without interruption during about four weeks in an exhausting struggle to make sure all of the Rhodesian Ridgeback puppies would survive, The Associated Press reports.

Actor Josh Lucas and his dog Loki helped Purina celebrate next month’s launch of its new beyOnd brand of pet food by giving away $1 million to charity in New York. Lucas approached random New Yorkers and gave them the opportunity to donate $5,000 of Purina’s money to a featured nonprofit organization of their choice, USA Today reports.
