It’s a fairy-tale ending to an amazing story that had a flea-infested beginning. Ripley the dog, 2010’s luckiest Poodle, was the canine star of the show at Ripley’s Big Bash! at the Houma, La., Petco store. The event was a send-off party and pet adoption fair in honor of little Ripley going home with his new owners. While the lucky pooch is now safe in a loving home, it was less than a month ago he had at best a dubious and short life ahead, Ripley’s News Room reports.

Obama, Bush Talk About Their Dog’s Business
Bush talked about the amazing transfer of power demanded by democracy — one day you’re the leader of free world handling nuclear codes, the next day you’re picking up your dog’s doo-doo. During his visit to a school in Arlington, Va., Obama wanted to teach the kids about personal responsibility, which sometimes involves dealing with poop. “I don’t want to just leave it in the lawn,” Obama told the students, USA Today reports.

Animal Humane Groups Rescue 57 Dogs from Cape May County, N.J., Hoarder
Ten officers from the Middle Township Police, Atlantic County SPCA, and the Humane Society of Atlantic County entered the property of Dawn Scheld, 46, and seized 57 emaciated dogs covered with feces and urine. No one was home when the police arrived to find 35 dogs in one room of the house. Around the outside of the house police found dozens of dogs in kennels and six dead dogs buried in shallow graves. One recently deceased dog was found on the side of the house, reports.

Michigan Dogfighting Ring Busted
Inkster Police broke up a gruesome dogfighting ring after raiding a backyard garage filled with bloody pit bulls in the middle of a battle. An anonymous tip led police to the neighborhood Friday night. Eighteen men were arrested. The dogs were found inside a two-car garage in a 15×15 fighting ring, reports.
