First-Aid Groups Treat Haiti’s Injured Animals
More than six months since the earthquake in Haiti, family dogs paw through garbage and rubble in search of food, putting them at risk of infections, abscesses and parasites, according to animal welfare groups. Owners want to help their pets, but they have little to give. With 1.5 million people still living in tents and the nation in the middle of hurricane season, animals are the lowest priority, animal rescue groups say, CNN reports.

Dog Surprises Officer by Giving Birth in Squad Car
A pit bull delivered quite a surprise in the back of a Prescott Valley, Ariz., patrol car. Prescott Valley police said an officer picked up the pit bull on Friday from an area woman who had been watching the dog. The officer noticed the dog appeared quite pregnant, but the woman told him she was not. The officer put the dog in the back of his patrol car to be impounded, but when he got to the station, he found more than one dog in the back, The Associated Press reports.

Man Seeks to Change Name to ‘Boomer the Dog’
A judge is considering whether a Pittsburgh-area man can legally change his name to Boomer the Dog after a short-lived television series. The man who went to court Tuesday is 44-year-old Gary Guy Matthews, of Green Tree. He is a fan of the 1980s NBC series “Here’s Boomer,” which featured a dog who rescued people, The Associated Press reports.
