Double-bunked behind the bars at the overrun St. Bernard Animal Shelter in Violet, La., are more victims of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill: shiny-coated Labrador Retrievers, long-haired Chihuahuas and a fluffy Shih Tzu. Among the more typical skinny, stray mutts are healthy, seemingly well-tended dogs whose owners, because of the massive spill, suddenly don’t have the time or money to keep them, The Associated Press reports.

Dog Sitters Sued for $1M After French Bulldog Dies
A New York couple whose dog died has reportedly filed a $1 million lawsuit against a Queens-based pet-sitting agency, Doggie Love, after the couple returned home to find their French Bulldog unresponsive on their apartment floor. According the lawsuit, an employee drove the couple’s dog to their apartment in an overheated van and dropped him off when he was clearly in distress, CBS News reports.
