The Jeffrey household is secure, but not because of Lady, the black Labrador Retriever in the yard who tries her best to be a good watchdog. The real security force in this house is Starla, a little white Chihuahua.
“She’s inside, but she hears everything, even before the Lab hears it. She’s an excellent watchdog,” says Starla’s owner, Carol Jeffrey of Nebraska. “She won’t try to bite,” says the Chihuahua breeder, who also serves as the public education chairman for the Chihuahua Club of America. “But if anybody comes to the door, she rushes in and raises a fuss until we tell her it’s OK. Then she goes about her business.”
