We all know the importance of adopting shelter dogs. For Adopt a Shelter Dog Month – which took place in October – American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) partnered with Smart Girls, a company founded by Amy Poehler and Meredith Walker to provide “a healthy alternative to so much that is being marketed to young people on the Internet.” Smart Girls and ASPCA teamed to create Heavy Petting.

The Heavy Petting project takes a different approach to marketing, as is the standard of Smart Girls. Instead of showing sad pictures of dogs in need, Smart Girls and ASPCA have created videos of dogs who need adopting. Voiceovers appear in each one, voiced by such people as Aubrey Plaza from Parks and Recreation, Ike Barinholtz, Aziz Ansari, Paul Scheer, Nick Offerman and more. Check out the one Aubrey Plaza did:

The videos highlight the dogs’ personalities while – hopefully – encouraging people to adopt them. To see more of these videos, visit the Heavy Petting webpage.

What do you think of this project? Will it encourage more dog adopters?
