Singapore Aquarium Tags Fish

New way to identify aquarium fish.

Visitors to Singapore’s Underwater World aquarium no longer need an information board to try and figure out what type of fish just swam past. Underwater World is the first aquarium in the world to tag its exhibit fish with microchips that use a radio-frequency identification system, according to a Reuters’ article.

Visitors to the aquarium can see the name, species and other information displayed on a touch screen whenever any of the 20 tagged fish swim past a sensor.

The system took three months to set up and cost about $20,000.
