Hayek’s 9-year-old dog, Mozart, was found dead last week on her ranch in Washington, about 70 miles south of Seattle. The unidentified neighbor reportedly confessed to shooting Mozart with a pellet gun after he caught the dog fighting with his own dogs inside his garage. The dog is believed to have run off while out on a walk with a caretaker.
A pellet had nicked an artery near Mozart’s heart, causing the dog to “slowly bled to death internally,” Page Six reports.
The neighbor claims he did not intend to kill the dog, only to scare him and another one away, according to Page Six.
Hayek — who also houses rescue horses, alpacas, parrots and other animals on her ranch — took to Instagram to mourn her loss.
“He was the most loving and loyal companion,” the 49-year-old activist wrote about Mozart. “He didn’t deserve a slow and painful death.”
I haven’t posted for a week as I been mourning the death of my dog, Mozart who I personally delivered out of his mother’s womb. He was found dead in my ranch last Friday with a shot close to his heart. I am hoping that the Washington State authorities do justice to this wonderful dog whom in 9 years never bit or attacked anyone. He loved his territory and never strayed away…he was the most loving and loyal companion. He didn’t deserve a slow and painful death. #muerte #perro #justiciaporlosanimales
The office ruled the shooting justified but will forward the case to the county prosecutor’s office for review.
