Get the lowdown on beagling, a modern sport with classic roots.

While many people are familiar with fox hunting, a lesser-known sport called “beagling” has remained in vogue since the 19th century. With a similar objective — having a pack of trained scenthounds lead hunters to prey — “beaglers” hunt on foot, rather than horseback, and pursue rabbit rather than fox. The Waldingfield pack of Charlottesville, Va., is the oldest, continually hunting pack of Beagles in America.
