“I always felt cats and libraries go together,” says Melissa Hansen, the town librarian in Willamina, Ore. That’s why the skinny, flea-ridden stray her daughter brought home ended up this rural town’s mascot. Christened Agatha Christie, the cat lived at the library, slept quietly and accompanied browsers. Then, in December 2005, someone complained, a city eviction notice followed and the Save Our Library Cat movement began.
