OC Raw Dog has issued a voluntary recall of its Chicken, Fish & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulation due to the possibility of salmonella contamination. The Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.-based company has not received any reports of illnesses and is recalling the product out of extreme caution.
The recalled products are limited to the 6.5-pound. Doggie Dozen Patties, 4-pound Doggie Sliders and 3-pound Meaty Rox of the Chicken, Fish & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulations. The recall affects these products with lot number 1819 and use by date of 05/05/16. This information is found on the back of the package in the bottom left corner. The recalled product was distributed in Colorado, Pennsylvania and Vermont and sold to customers through independent pet specialty stores. No other products are affected by this recall.
The voluntary recall was issued after the Colorado Department of Food and Agriculture did a routine testing of the product and discovered the presence of salmonella in a 3-pound bag of Meaty Rox. The California Department of Agriculture tested the same lot on a previous occasion and found no traces of salmonella.
If you have the recalled product, stop feeding it to your dog immediately. Dogs who have been exposed to salmonella may experience decreased appetite, abdominal pain, fever, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, lethargy and vomiting. Dogs who show no symptoms may still be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your dog has eaten the recalled product and has any of these symptoms, contact your veterinarian. Humans who have handled the contaminated product should monitor themselves for diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever. Though rare, salmonella infections may also result in arthritis, eye irritation, arterial infections, muscle pain, endocarditis and urinary tract symptoms. Contact your doctor if any of these symptoms appear.
A photo of the recalled product’s lot number should be emailed to Olivia@ocrawdog.com for verification. Then, dispose of the product right away or return it to the place it was purchased for a replacement product.
