Rabbit Allergy Quick Tips

Use these tips to keep rabbit allergies at a minimum.

Don’t fret if you find yourself allergic to your rabbit. A little preemptive care goes a long way in keeping rabbit allergies at bay.

Tip 1: Hay is an essential part of a rabbit’s diet, but it doesn’t mean you have to forego your own well-being if you’re allergic to it. Instead of spreading hay around your rabbit’s area, keep it contained to a single spot, store it in air-tight containers and wear gloves to avoid direct contact with it.

Tip 2: Keep the rabbit cage on a rug or other easy-to-clean surface, such as a plastic chair mat (available at office supply stores) or a cut piece of linoleum.

Tip 3: Prevent your (and your rabbit’s) allergies from acting up — keep dust and dander to a minimum by using a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate arresting) air purifier and vacuum.
