Quick Tips: Help for Ear Mites

Is your cat scratching its ears? It may have ear mites. Fortunately, this social disease is curable.

In most cases, mild mitecides available over the counter will clear ear mite infection. Because all stages of the mites live in the ears of cats, treatment for at least three to four weeks is necessary. Ivermectin, a dewormer used for cows and in various ways for small animals, can be used in resistant cases (it can be diluted for use in cat’s ears). Twice weekly treatments for two to three weeks will usually clear the problem and all cats in the home need to be treated. Consult your veterinarian for specific treatment of your cat.
