Sammie has suffered a lifetime’s worth of hurt in his short three to four months of life. He was rescued after someone spray painted him, dragged him behind a car — which broke two of his legs in the process — and then shot him in the head. He needed a lot of healing, and many people, plus one dog, were there for him.

Sammie was brought to a South Carolina shelter as a “stray,” but according to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC’s YouCaring page set up to help him, the woman who brought him in knew a whole lot with regard to Sammie. She apparently told the shelter that she brought the puppy in after two to three days because “he wouldn’t die.”

“We still cannot believe a SICK EVIL person hurt this sweet baby and tried to kill him and was upset he ‘wouldn’t die!'” Rescue Dogs Rock NYC posted on Sammie’s YouCaring page. “He’s got a very long road back, and we will be there with him every step of the way!”

Sammie did survive. He went into surgery at Paws & Claws Animal Clinic to fix what was done to him, and when he came out, the most compassionate expression from one dog to another occurred.

Simon, a 1-year-old Border Collie who came into the clinic with a severe case of mange, came up to Sammie and lent him a paw. Staff at the clinic snapped a photo of Simon showing some compassion to Sammie, and that photo has gone around the world via social media.

After he heals up, Sammie will be available for adoption through Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. Hopefully someone will take Sammie and Simon together so they can spend the rest of their lives enjoying each day, doing the fun things that dogs do.
