German photographer Elke Vogelsang knows dogs. She has taken tons of beautiful photos showcasing dogs and their owners, dogs being all adorable outdoors and dogs showing off their complex and amazing personalities in just one glance at the camera.
So it should come as no surprise that there have been a few comically candid shots along the way, including some where the dogs are looking less than thrilled to be doing something they don’t understand at all (posing for a foreign object and flashing light).
And those might just be the best photos she’s ever taken.
Vogelsang thinks so, too.
“I like the outtakes, the bewildered, quirky expressions. I found that in some pictures the dogs look like they think that the photographer lost her mind,” she wrote on Bored Panda.
Here are a bunch of dogs looking utterly annoyed, suspicious, cranky and exasperated.
“I know you said this is for your business, but like, I need reassurance that my face isn’t going to become a meme. It’s just… it’s happened to too many of my friends.”
“I’m not in a bad mood. This is just my face. Thanks.”
“You don’t tell me to smile. I smile when I choose to do so.”

“OMG, how long do I have to sit here? I thought we were going on a walk soon?!”
“You know what? I’m running on less than 10 hours of sleep, and I’ve only had three meals and 13 treats SO YEAH, I’m a little stressed.”
“You said there would be cheese. I see no cheese.”
“I don’t even care how many likes this photo gets. I’ve got things to do and rules to break.”
“Ahem, did I just hear you say that cats are the superior species?”
“If I don’t get to watch my stories soon, I vow to pee on your jacket with the force of a thousand waterfalls.”
