The new “Star Wars” movie will be here soon, and so will our beloved General Leia Organa once again. As excited as we are to see the late actress who played Leia in her final screen role, we know there is one superfan who is even more thrilled than we are: Carrie Fisher’s French Bulldog, Gary.
Gary’s Instagram post from yesterday shows him intently watching the newly released trailer for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” It’s almost heartbreaking.
Fisher adopted Gary as a therapy dog to help with the movie star and animal rights advocate’s bipolar disorder. She died late last December of cardiac arrest, and Gary went to live with Billie Lourd, Fisher’s daughter.
Gary had a strong connection to Fisher’s former assistant, Corby McCoin, who began caring for Gary shortly after Fisher’s passing. McCoin began posting to Gary’s Instagram account and that’s how we’ve been able to see what’s been going on with the cute Frenchie.
Few posts have been as moving as yesterday’s. Maybe it’s because we miss the funny and talented Fisher, too, and saw the strong connection she and her beloved dog had. Our happiness to see Fisher on screen again must be a small fraction of what this little dog has to be feeling.
