PBGV Is Best in Show at Crufts 2013

Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen Ch. Soletrader Peak A Boo 'Jilly' took Best in Show at Crufts 2013 in Birminham, England.

On Sunday, March 10, 2013, after four days of conformation competition at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham, England, Geoff Corish judged Best in Show at Crufts 2013. Crufts, one of the largest dog shows in the world, saw an estimated 25,000 dogs and more than 145,000 spectators at the event, including many more who watched online or on Television.

On Sunday night, as thousands of people watched, Best in Show judge Geoff Corish chose between seven dogs in the Best in Show lineup (whittled down from more than 20,500 dogs during breed judging), which included the Skye Terrier, Tibetan Terrier, King Charles Spaniel, Labrador Retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog, Australian Shepherd and Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen.  Best in Show was Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen Ch. Soletrader Peak A Boo ‘Jilly,’ a 3-year-old who had been awarded Reserve Best in Show back in 2011. In 2011, Jilly became the top Hound in England, and an all-breeds and Group show Best in Show winner. In 2012 she was England’s Top Dog, and she won 18 out of the year’s 27 Hound Groups.

Jilly is owned by Sara Robertson and Wendy Doherty and breeder-handled by Gavin Robertson. Robertson, who is a Kennel Club Assured Breeder from Wallingford, Oxfordshire, said, “I can’t express how I feel, it’s like a wave of emotion. It hasn’t sunk in and I am sure it won’t for quite some time. We could only dream of this; Crufts is the best dog show in the world and something everyone aspires to. Jilly is genuinely a once in a lifetime, she is full of character and an absolute pleasure, just such a great dog.”

Reserve Best in Show was Labrador Retriever Ch. Loch Mor Romeo ‘Romeo,’ who is owned by Franco Barberi from Cesara, Italy.
