Paws for Pirelli

Like all of the puppies born at Canine Assistants, a non-profit organization which trains and provides service dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities or other special needs, Pirelli the puppy was born with a very special job to do and big shoes to fill.

Pirelli Canine AssitantsBut Pirelli, a Golden Retriever and Labrador mix, was born missing a paw and now he needs shoes of his own to help him get around.

Pirelli who now training to be the spokesdog for Canine Assistants, his boot-style prosthetic helps him visit schools to teach children about disabilities.  Since he’s just a pup, Pirelli will outgrow the prosthetic and will need new ones as he reaches adulthood.

Canine Assistants has launched a grassroots campaign, asking for your help in Funding Prosthetic Paw for Pirelli the Puppy. Through a limited-time offer on Groupon, animal lovers can donate $10 toward Pirelli’s next prosthetic. The offer expires Tuesday, Aug. 14.

If this Grassroots campaign raises $600, then Canine Assistants can fund a prosthetic boot for Pirelli the puppy. Donations up to $600 dollars will be matched by Mickey’s Kids Charitable Foundation. Additionally, an anonymous donor will match donations up to $25,000. With the new foot, Pirelli can visit local schools and serve as a spokesdog to teach children about disabilities. Each additional $10 raised will go toward funding new prosthetics as Pirelli grows up and wears out them out.

Pirelli is on a waiting list so that when he is 1 year old, a veterinarian at North Carolina State University can implant a permanent prosthesis onto his leg bone (not covered by this campaign). Successful surgery will allow the bone to integrate with the implant and move with him when he walks.
