A new pet café is about to open, and will totally put the Rainforest Café to shame.
A café featuring parrots — the first of its kind in the United States — will open in two weeks in Colorado Springs, The Gazette reports. Husband and wife Erik and Michele Wolf started a rescue for parrots in the area, and now have decided to put part of their rescue in a restaurant setting. It has a chance to boost parrot adoptions and the moods of anyone entering. (Have you watched parrots? They’re seriously fun to watch.)
The Perch will feature roughly 20 to 30 parrots at a time, out of the 30 to 50 that the Wolfs typically have in their rescue. Customers can stop by for coffee, baked goods and some ambient bird noises.
“If you are interested in adopting a bird, you can come here and hang out six days a week and start to form that relationship and see if this is something that can fit into your life,” Erik told the news outlet.
Little birds like Budgies and Cockatiels will be available for same-day adoption. The big birds — Macaws, Cockatoos, etc. — require a little more time to get to know, so their adoption will require a 10-day application process. The Wolfs really want to find forever homes for their feathered friends.
“We charge as little as possible,” Michele told The Gazette. “We want people to do the right thing and adopt because birds have already been through a shelter. This doesn’t exist to make money. It exists to help find these birds homes and give them the second chance they deserve.”
