Oprah Adopts New Puppy

Talk-show host’s canine family grows with the addition of a Cocker Spaniel rescue.

Beating President Barack Obama to the punch, Oprah Winfrey recently took home a new puppy from a Chicago animal shelter, according to news reports.

The talk-show host adopted an 8-week-old blond-colored Cocker Spaniel from the PAWS Chicago shelter, Usmagazine.com reports.

It’s not clear whether Winfrey gave the puppy a new name or kept the name Amanda, given to her by shelter staff.

On an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show in April 2008, Winfrey shed light on irresponsible commercial dog kennels. She dedicated the show to the memory of her dog Sophie, a 13-year-old Cocker Spaniel who died of kidney failure last March.

With the addition of the new puppy, Winfrey and her longtime boyfriend, Stedman Graham, now have three canines in their home. In 2005, she adopted two retrievers.
