Nuts for Mutts

Celebrities show their support for mixed-breed dog show.

Credit: New Leash on LifeMutts and the people who love them turned out to support Nuts for Mutts, a two-day fundraiser dog show held last week for Los Angeles-based New Leash on Life, a non-profit organization that rescues and places abandoned animals.

The event, hosted by actress Kim Basinger, awards winners in categories such as Most Beautiful, Cutest Puppy, Ear-resitible Ears and Best Senior. Its just like the Westminster Dog Show, says co-founder Kelly Dorafshar. OK, not really!

Mutts enter qualifying rounds, and winners advance to the more than two-dozen special categories. The first-place winners of the special categories compete on the second day of the competition for the top three Best in Show spots.

Siiska, owned by Keri Gardner, took home the first-place Best in Show award. Their prizes? A $1,000 shopping spree at Petco and other dog-friendly gifts.
