Through Monday, March 26 canine heroes can be nominated for honors in eight categories: Law Enforcement/Arson, Service, Therapy, Military, Guides, Search and Rescue, Hearing, and an Emerging Hero Dogs category that recognizes ordinary pets that do extraordinary things.
“This annual initiative recognizes these tremendous animals through their stories of loyalty, bravery, commitment, and unconditional love,” says Bill Abbott, CEO and President, Crown Media Family Networks. “As we open nominations for next year, we look forward to hearing and sharing more of these accounts, which are important reminders of how integral the human-dog partnership is to the enrichment of so many lives.”
A finalist will be selected for each category through public voting, which begins April 1. Each category winner will each receive $5,000 for their chosen charity and will be flown to Hollywood with two human friends to be celebrated on the red carpet and attend the awards show.
Finalists will be judged by a panel of both celebrities and animal experts including: Whoopi Goldberg, Candy Spelling, CBS’ Debbye Turner Bell, “America’s Veterinarian” Dr. Marty Becker, actresses Kristin Bauer Van Straten, and many other notable name. The top winner will win an additional $10,000 for their charity partner.
