A large German Shepherd in New Zealand, whose owner says is often overlooked as a dangerous and unapproachable dog, has an unlikely ally: the mailman.
That’s right, Michael Collins’ big dog, Kyza, is friends with the mailman, who hugs the big cuddle monster almost daily while delivering the mail, a video posted to Facebook by Collins shows.
Just want to share something cool! Everyday whether or not we have mail this mail man always stops to see my dog who is only 9 months old. He always gets over looked as a dangerous or unapproachable dog, Maybe cause he’s big i am not sure. He doesn’t bark at them or growl ( Maybe the odd couple times he barks at people but which dog doesn’t ) But this guy here always makes an effort to get off his bike to give him a hug and a pat! I’m not sure who to tag on Facebook for him to see this! But thanks man keep up the good job and you’ve definitely got a friend waiting for ya!!

Some dogs don’t like the mailman, so much so that letter carriers in the United States carry a can of dog repellent to keep those dogs at bay. But this mailman and the 9-month-old pup have developed a special bond that is strengthened almost daily. You can see it in the video as the man approaches and Kyza just leaps up and gets into his face for some cuddles and licks.
The owner of Kyza says he is overlooked as dangerous and unapproachable. The mailman proves that is not true. Via Michael Collins/Facebook
The interaction between the dog and the mailman is short and sweet, not unlike the boy who snuck into a family’s garage to hug the family dog. It goes to show that not all dogs are aggressive toward the mailman, and not all big German Shepherds are unapproachable.
