Carson Urness wandered away from his house on Monday setting off a 6 hour search that involved a team of 200 people searching by foot, in planes, on horses, riding ATV’s and with Bloodhounds. But the 3-year-old boy is back at home now, thanks in part to Cooper, the family dog.
According to an interview with WDAY-TV, mother Courtney expected Carson to come in around 7:30pm when he might be hungry for dinner, but when she went out into the farm yard to look for him, but after searching the property realized Carson and their dog Cooper were nowhere to be found. Courtney and Brock Urness called 911 and the search began.
“You think of the worst, but then I knew Cooper was gone. If anyone was going to find him, they’d just have to find Cooper,” says Courtney.
At 2 a.m. authorities were just about to call of the foot search home when a searcher on an ATV found Carson with Cooper lying on top of him, shielding him from the cold and rain. Carson had torn jeans, a ripped jacket and muddy shoes and socks, but thanks to Cooper was safe and warm.
According to the report, Carson later told his mom, “Mom, I was really scared, but Cooper laid on me. He kept me warm.”
Cooper is a Golden Retriever mix. He was found abandoned as a puppy and was taken in by the Urness family. Clearly both are grateful to have found one another.
