Novartis Animal Health U.S. Inc. and Hill’s Pet Nutrition are spearheading a new campaign to help screen dogs for arthritis. The “Million Dog Search” campaign aims to screen one million dogs for arthritis with a questionnaire at www.milliondogsearch.com, and offers a short pain checklist dog owners can use to determine if their pets are suffering.
The campaign also encourages screenings through educational and support materials that help veterinary hospitals teach dog owners and staff about arthritis.
“One in five dogs suffers from canine arthritis, yet so few get treatment,” said Mickey McDermott, vice president of communications at Novartis Animal Health. “We hope this campaign helps these dogs get help from a veterinarian quickly.”
For each checklist and screening completed online, Novartis Animal Health and Hill’s Pet Nutrition will donate $1 to the owner’s charity of choice. Participating charities include the American Animal Hospital Association, the American Veterinary Medical Foundation, Canine Companions for Independence, the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind and America’s VetDogs, the Morris Animal Foundation, Paws of Life and Vets Beyond Borders.
All charities can earn up to $5,000. The charity with the most supporters will earn an additional $20,000 for a total of $25,000.
The campaign ends Nov. 30.
