America’s Family Pet Expo, a pet and pet product exhibition open to the public, returns Apr. 19-21, 2013, to Orange County, Calif. The yearly event showcases pets on display, performing on stage, competing in trials and acting in hands-on demonstrations with education coordinators.
This year, organizers promise to provide more than 1,000 animals including dogs, cats, birds, fish, llamas, pot-bellied pigs, goats, rats, reptiles, rabbits, miniature horses and more. Highlights include pet adoption and special prices for products – along with many opportunities to pet the animals in attendance.
“It’s a great day out with the family with fun displays, but also for good information on care for your pet,” said Doug Poindexter, president of World Pet Association, Inc., which produces the event. “The best part of it is that we donate space to various pet groups so they can educate the public on how to best care for their pets.”
Poindexter says up to 75% of booth space is donated to pet advocacy groups. He adds that for the past few years, about 600 dogs, cats and other pets have been adopted each weekend.
This year, The International Cat Association presents a breed display where expo attendees can meet and greet about 50 cat breeds. Cat breed experts will be on hand to help visitors interact with the cats and teach people about breed characteristics and temperaments. The Cat Fanciers Association will also return to talk about cat breeds.
Among the pet celebrities on hand will be Frosty, the cat who plays “Larry” on TV’s “Modern Family.” Frosty’s castmate “Beatrice,” who plays “Stella” on the show, will also make an appearance. They will join several other animal stars from television.
“It’s amazing to see how having animals in our lives makes them so much better,” Poindexter said. “You don’t realize how impactful they are until you take a step back to notice it in other people.”
