Man Punches Bear to Protect His Chihuahua

A California man is willing to do whatever it takes to keep his dogs safe.

Carl Moore of Meadow Vista, CA, sprang into action when he heard his frightened Chihuahua’s yelps for help coming from his deck.

When he got outside, 73-year-old Moore, was confronted by a 300-pound bear. But the bear, who Moore believed had killed some of his chickens, was not going to lay a paw on his beloved little dog.

The ex-marine and former Boxer, raised his arms over his head and charged at the bear. But before the bear left, he reared up and turned towards Moore who responded with a punch.

“Boom, I hit him good,” Moore tells WNEP. “This big right hand has sent a lot of people to the floor.”

So really, why not a bear?

“I never faced anything in my life that I didn’t figure I can whip,” says the confident senior, who also says he would do it again. “These dogs are my babies.”

The department of Fish and Wildlife told Moore that he could shoot the bear for killing his chickens, but Moore would likely punch a bear again before shooting one, and says if the bear come back he’ll call 911.
