Most people who have dogs know that the Fourth of July can be very stressful for their pets. They are urged to keep their dogs inside so their pets don’t have to hear the commotion of fireworks, and so they don’t run away.

One man in Georgia apparently didn’t heed that advice and is now facing animal cruelty charges for lighting fireworks on his porch right above his dog. William Scaffidi, an Atlanta realtor, posted a video of the dog’s reaction on Facebook, which quickly went viral. He also apparently didn’t have a license for his 4-year-old Husky mix and may face a charge for that as well, according to Atlanta’s WSB-TV 2.

The video, which was captured by Scaffidi’s daughter with a cell phone, shows the man lighting the fireworks and then closing the door on his porch. The dog, which looks back at Scaffidi as he closes the door, is then surprised by the fireworks going off first on one side of her, and then on the other. The dog, obviously scared, has no place to run. After the fireworks go off, you can hear what appears to be children laughing.

This video of a man scaring his dog with fireworks on the 4th of July has now led to animal cruelty charges.

Most of the commenters on Facebook are upset and disgusted by Scaffidi’s actions.

Scaffidi told WSB-TV 2 that he didn’t know the dog was on the porch when he lit the fireworks, and he didn’t do it on purpose.

“The thing is, is that it wasn’t even a prank,” Scaffidi told WSB-TV 2. “It wasn’t a prank. A lot of people say you put the plants there to trap the dog. That’s ridiculous. I didn’t even know the dog was there.”
