A United Kingdom man was accused of beating an African grey parrot named Blakely (not pictured) to death.

A sad story out of Prenton in the United Kingdom: A man has been accused of killing an African grey parrot by “punching it to death,?according to Liverpool Echo. This incident took place early mid-September of this year.

Gary Thomas Bateman reportedly beat Blakely, the African grey, who belonged to Bate? ex-partner, Kimberly Ellis. “[Bateman] pleaded not guilty to one charge of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal at Liverpool Magistrates?Court today,?writes Liverpool Echo.

Along with that charge, he was also charged for assaulting Ellis. After allegedly beating the parrot to death, Bateman beat Ellis. “[Bateman] was jailed for 18 months at Liverpool Crown Court earlier this month after admitting repeatedly punching Miss Ellis to the face, knocking her unconscious,?writes the Liverpool Echo.

For now, the case has been adjourned until March 3, 2016. Here? hoping Blakely, and Ellis, get justice.
