The annual spcaLA Night with the Kings at Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles helped raise thousands of dollars for animals in need.
Hockey fans at the Jan. 8 game participated in a silent auction at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals outreach table. During the game, people crowded around to place bids on autographed Kings memorabilia and unique pet bowls designed by the Los Angeles Kings players.
The decorative pet bowls fetched bids as high as $700. All the proceeds from the silent auction benefited the spcaLA’s programs and services.
While the rivalry between the Kings and the Anaheim Ducks was the main attraction, the spcaLA was also in the spotlight when President Madeline Bernstein was presented with a $25,000 check from Ralphs. At one point during the game, Bernstein and other staff and volunteers were seated at the visiting team’s bench and introduced to the crowd as special guests of the Kings.
The game ended with a 4-3 Kings victory.
