Loro Parque Convention in the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands play host to the sixth annual Loro Parque International Parrot Convention September 27 to 30, 2006. The convention, held every six years, features talks from the top aviculturists and parrot conservationists in the world, including Rosemary Low, Dr. David Waugh, Dr. Nigel Collar, Dr. Donald Brightsmith, Rick Jordan, Dr. Jorgen Thomsen and many more. ?he 2006 convention promises to exceed all its predecessors in the range of material covered,?said Birgit Veenker of Loro Parque. More than 850 delegates are expected to attend this public event.

Loro Parque houses the largest parrot collection in the world ?about 4,000 – and is responsible for breeding some of the rarest of those birds for the management of the species. Earlier this year, a third Spix macaw chick hatched in the Loro Parque aviary. The Spix is ?ritically endangered?according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, and the last wild specimen was sighted in 2000.

The Loro Parque zoological grounds include other animal attractions, such as ?iger island,?a sea lion show, ?himpland,?the world? largest penguin exhibit, jaguars and ?rcaOcean,?the largest orca installation.

Discounted convention registration is available until May 31, 2006. Visit www.loroparque-fundacion.org to register or for more information. Hotel Botanico offers discounted accommodations for convention participants.
