This kittens heritage stretches across the entire nation of Russia, with many different cultures and peoples affecting the cat he is today.
The Siberian is believed to have existed for thousands of years as a native of Russia. An account of a cat show held in England in 1871 mentions the breed, though it is difficult to find mention of the Siberian in historical accounts of animals in Russia.
The breed first entered the United States in 1990. The Cat Fanciers Association accepted it into the miscellaneous class in 2000. Though popular with cat lovers, the Siberian is still rare in America, with kittens in high demand.
